The International Day of the Girl Child 2025 was celebrated at Nayadangi village, Singair upazila of Manikganj district, under the slogan “I am a girl; I lead change; I stand at the forefront of crisis.”
The event was organized by the Surjomukhi Adolescent Girls’ Club with support from BARCIK. Hosted at the home of Selina Akter, the celebration featured a colorful rally, traditional games, a discussion session, and a human chain demanding girls’ rights.

Participants included adolescent girls from the club and the surrounding community, along with women, men, children, local leaders, and representatives of civil society. The event was facilitated by Rina Akter, Associate Programme Officer at BARCIK.
Speaking at the event, social representative Abul Hossain said, “We often hear about women’s rights days, but it is equally important to have a special day to highlight the voices of girls, who often face multiple forms of discrimination.”

Women leader Selina Akter said, “We, the girls and women, can reach for the sky if given the right opportunities and supportive environment.”
The day concluded with prize distribution among winners of traditional village games and a human chain where participants held posters and placards calling for the protection and advancement of girls’ rights.
